    Cattle Egret  Bubulcus ibis Found at La Rosa del Taro on two occasions. 
    Little Egret   Egretta garzeta  A common resident, mostly at coastal sites.
    Grey Heron   Ardea cineria  A common resident, mostly at the coast.
    Spoonbill  Platalea leucorodia  Seen daily at Catalina Garcia, also at Corralejo. 
    Ruddy Shelduck   Tadorna ferruginea Resident at Catalina Garcia and Los Molinos. 
    Wigeon  Anas penelope  One at Catalina Garcia, 7th to 20th Feb 2007. 
    Gadwall  Anas strepera  One at Catalina Garcia, 7th to 20th Feb 2007.

    Ring-necked Duck  Aythya collaris   Male at Catalina Garcia, 7th to 20th Oct 2006.
    Lesser Scaup  Aythya affinis   2 males at Catalina Garcia, 7th to 20th Oct 2006.
    Egyptian Vulture  Neophron percnoptrus  Seen throughout on most days, max 27 in area of Los Pocetos on 14 Oct 2006.
    Sparrowhawk * Accipiter nisus granti   1 at La Rosa del Taro, 17th Oct 2006. Said not to occur on Fuerteventura.
    Buzzard * Buteo buteo insularum  Noted daily throughout the island. 
    Golden Eagle  Aquila chrysaetos  A bird on ridge of Pico de Betancuria, 9th Oct 2006. Since reported to be one of a nesting pair in the area.
    Osprey  Pandion haliaetus  A regular visitor to Catalina Garcia throughout.
    Lesser Kestrel  Falco naumanni  3 hawking flies over Tesjuales, 22nd Nov 2005. 
    Kestrel * Falco tinnunculus dacotiae Noted throughout on a daily basis. 
    Barbary Falcon  Falco pelegrinoides  A pair over the cliffs at Tindaya, 22nd Nov 2005. 
    Barbary Partridge Alectoris barbara  Coveys of up to 8, noted throughout the island. 
    Moorhen Gallinula chloropus  Present at Catalina Garcia, La Rosa del Taro and Los Molinos, breeds. 
    Coot  Fulica atra   Common on all water bodies, breeds.
    Houbara Bustard * Chlamydotis undulata fuertaventurae  Displaying male at Tindaya, 10th Feb 2007 and 2 females at Finca Jarde, 11th Feb 2007. 
    Black-winged Stilt   Himantopus himantopus  Can be present at Los Milinos, La Rosa del Taro, but Catalina Garcia is best by far for this bird.
    Stone Curlew * Burhinus oedicnemus insularum  1 at Catalina Garcia and 2 at Finca Jarde, 9th Feb 2007. 5 at Finca Jarde, 17th Feb 2007. 
    Cream-coloured Courser * Cursorius cursor bannermani  6 at Los Pocetos from 14th to least 17th Oct 2006. 5 noted in the Antigua area, 16th Oct 2006. 
    Little Ringed Plover  Charadrius dubius  Resident breeder, present at Catalina Garcia. 
    Ringed Plover  Charadrius hiaticula  Common along coast and inland waters. 
    Kentish Plover  Charadrius alexandrinus  Resident breeder, coasts and Catalina Garcia. 
    Dotterel Charadrius morinellus  1 at Los Pocetos, 14th to at least 17th Oct 2006. 
    Grey Plover  Pluvialis squatarola  Present at coastal sites in small numbers. 
    Lapwing  Vanellus vanellus  1 at Pozo Negro, 17th Nov 2005. 
    Sanderling  Calidris alba  Common winter visitor on most beaches. 
    Curlew Sandpiper  Calidris ferruginea  A juvenile at Salinas del Carmen, 11th Feb 2007. 
    Dunlin  Calidris alpina  Singles at Salinas del Carmen, may over-winter. 
    Snipe  Gallinago gallinago  Regular at Catalina Garcia and La Rosa del Taro 
    Black-tailed Godwit  Limosa limosa  2 at Catalina Garcia thoughout. 1 at Punta Jandia on 11th Feb 2007. 
    Whimbrel  Numenius phaeopus  Regular at Salinas del Carmen and around coast. 
    Spotted Redshank  Tringa erythropus  1 at Catalina Garcia, 4th-7th Oct 2006. 2 at Los Molinos, 10th Oct 2006. 1 at Catalina Garcia, 8th Feb 2007. A max of 2 there until 20th Feb 2007. 
    Redshank  Tringa totanus  Singles at El Cottilo, Catalina Garcia, Salinas del Carmen and Los Molinos throughout. 
    Greenshank  Tringa nebularia   Common at Catalina Garcia and Los Molinos.
    Green Sandpiper  Tringa ochropus  1 at Catalina Garcia on 4th Oct 2006. 
    Wood Sandpiper  Tringa glariola  3 at Catalina Garcia from 4th-8th Oct 2006. 
    Common Sandpiper   Actites hypoleucos Regular at Catalina Garcia and Los Molinos.
    Turnstone  Arenaria interpres  Common all around the coast. 
    Lesser Black-backed Gull  Larus fuscus fuscus  Common on coastal sites in winter. 
    Yellow-legged Gull  Larus cachinnans atlantis   Most common gull all over the island.
    Great Black-backed Gull  Larus marinus   A rare winter visitor. One sighting on 19th Nov 2005.
    Sandwich Tern  Sterna sandvicensis Fairly common winter visitor. 
    Black-bellied Sandgrouse  Pterocles orientalis   Catalina Garcia and La Rosa del Taro are best spots.
    Rock Dove  Columbia livia  Colonies of apparently pure birds frequent some cliffs. 
    Collared Dove  Streptopelia decaocta   Very common throughout Fuerteventura.
    Monk Parakeet  Myiopsitta monachus  A breeding colony at the Botanic Gardens; probably escaped from the local zoo. 
    Long-eared Owl * Asio otus canariensis  A single sighting at Tequital on 17th Feb 2007. 
    Plain Swift * Apus unicolor  5 over Catalina Garcia on 16th Feb 2007. 1 over Los Pocetas on 17th Feb 2007 
    Common Swift  Apus apus  2 over Morro Jable, 5th Oct 2006. 
    Hoopoe  Upupa epops Resident breeder. 
    Lesser Short-toed Lark * Calandrella rufescens polatzeki Usually seen in large flocks, confined to Fuerteventura. 
    Barn Swallow  Hirunda rustica  Roosting in reeds at La Rosa del Taro, 5th Oct 2006. About 30 at Catalina Garcia stooping to drink, 15th Feb 2007. 
    House Martin  Delichon urbica  5 over Catalina Garcia on 17th Feb 2007. 
    Berthelot's Pipit * Anthus berthelotii berthelotii  Common resident breeder. 
    Grey Wagtail  Motacilla cinerea  1 at Vega de Rio Palmas on 20th Feb 2007. 
    White Wagtail  Motacilla alba   Fairly common winter visitor.
    Yellow Wagtail  Motacilla flava  1 at Los Molinos on 10th October. 
    Whinchat   Saxicola rubetra  3 at Catalina Garcia on the 5th Oct 2006 and a single male on 9th Oct 2006.
    Fuerteventura Chat * Saxicola dacotiae   Confined to Fureteventura, common in desert areas.
    Stonechat  Saxicola torquata  A rare winter visitor. A male and a female at Catalina Garcia on the 5th Oct 2006. 
    Northern Wheatear  Oenanthe oenanthe  1 at Los Molinos 0n the 5th and 1 at Catalina Garcia on the 9th Oct 2006. 
    Blackbird * Turdus merula cabrerae  1 female at La Rosa del Taro, 19th Nov 2005. 
    Spectacled Warbler * Sylvia conspicillata orbitalis  Common throughout. 
    Sardinian Warbler  Sylvia melanocephala  Fairly common where vegetation occurs. 
    Whitethroat  Sylvia communis  Rare migrant. 1 at La Rosa del Taro 19th Nov 2005.
    Willow Warbler  Phylloscopus trochilus   2 at Pajara 9th Feb 2007.
    Spotted Flycatcher  Muscicapa striata  1 at Betancuria barranco 9th Oct 2006. 
    Pied Flycatcher  Fucedula hypoleuca  1 at La Rosa del Taro on 15th Oct 2006. 2 at Betancuria barranco and 2 at Vega de Rio Palmas on the 16th Oct 2006. 
    Blue Tit * Parus caeruleus degener  Common at Betancuria and Pajara. 
    Southern Grey Shrike * Lanius excubitor koenigi  Very common throughout. 
    Raven Corvus corax  The island's only crow; very common. 
    Spanish Sparrow  Passer hispaniolensis  Very common.
    Canary  Serinus canaria  

    Said not to exist on Fuerteventura, but I saw 1 at Castilla de Lara on the 8th and 14 there on the 9th Feb 2007.

    Goldfinch  Carduelis carduelis 

    Present at Betancuria, Pajara, and Vega de Rio Palmas. 

    Linnet * Acanthis cannabina harterti 

    Common on the low ground. 

    Trumpeter Finch * Budanetes githagineus amantum  Common and confiding.
